Scotland
In Scotland, Laboratory Services are coordinated around the triple aims of improving the quality of healthcare, improving the health of the population and achieving value and financial sustainability. This is aligned to the goal of providing high quality care as close to patients' homes as possible, within networked services. These services are based in Territorial Health Boards and include: clinical biochemistry, haematology, immunology, microbiology, virology, genetics and blood transfusion. Pathology in this context covers all branches of cellular pathology incorporating cytopathology, forensic pathology, paediatric and perinatal pathology and diagnsotic neuropathology.
