About
The National Postgraduate College of Nigeria (NPMCN) was established by the National Postgraduate Medical College Decree No. 67 of 24 September 1979 (now Cap N59 Laws of the Federation 2004), and is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal. The College was set up as a tertiary institution at the apex of medical education in Nigeria. Its primary function is to produce specialists in all branches of medicine and dentistry. It oversees the postgraduate medical education and training of pathologists in Nigeria through its Faculty of Pathology.
Objectives
The first Memorandum of Understanding was formed in 2017 and renewed in 2021. It sets out that together we will work towards:
- reviewing local pathology training/residency programmes, with a view to identifying gaps and areas for improvement
- strengthening local examination and assessment methods and frameworks
- developing and delivering joint educational events and activities, covering a range of issues and areas of mutual interest
- building the capacity and capability of public sector laboratories in Nigeria
- promoting pathology and laboratory medicine through a range of activities and events
- supporting international medical graduates and providing guidance for the Medical Training Initiative.
Our achievements so far
- Collaborated on the delivery of 6 virtual Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship lectures that gave the Nigerian and UK perspectives on the topic in 2022.
- Delivered a series of 6 virtual lectures on the theory of genomic technologies in 2021.
- Ran a virtual session for examiners at the NPMCN in 2021.
