Join two clinical clinical scientists specialising in immunology at this free careers webinar aimed at undergraduates studying biomedical science and other relevant degrees.

This online event will shine a spotlight on careers in immuology. Our two speakers are clinical scientists specialising in immunology. The session (to be held on Zoom Webinar) aims to give undergraduates studying biomedical science and other related degrees a comprehensive introduction this fascinating pathology specialty.

Speakers at this webinar will cover:
•    What immunology is
•    Their personal journeys into immunology (education, training, PhD, post-doc etc)
•    What the speaker’s day-to-day work is like
•    Speaker’s current research (if any)
•    The contribution of immunology to medicine and healthcare.

This event is being run jointly by The Royal College of Pathologists and the Manchester Pathology Society.

Kavindi Gunaratne is a clinical scientist in the immunology laboratory at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. Her interest in immunology and its application in healthcare began during her BSc in Biomedical Sciences at UCL, where she conducted a flow cytometry-based research project on B-cell ageing. This led her to pursue the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Clinical Immunology, qualifying as a clinical scientist in 2023. Having recently completed the STP, Kavindi is looking forward to growing in her role, expanding her involvement in training and education, and sharing her enthusiasm for clinical immunology and healthcare science with the broader healthcare community.

Kristen Lilly is a consultant scientist based in Sheffield. Following undergraduate Immunology education at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Kristen began training as a clinical scientist at University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP) in 2013 and was appointed as a Senior Clinical Scientist at UHP after completing the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in 2016. The following year, she started the Higher Specialist Scientific Training (HSST) programme and during this time practiced in a Principal Clinical Scientist role whilst studying her Doctorate in Clinical Science (DClinSci) in collaboration with the Hepatology Research Group. Following completion of the HSST and achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), Kristen was appointed to a Consultant Clinical Scientist post at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) in December 2022.
