This online event will shine a spotlight on careers in chemical pathology. Our speakers are chemical pathology registrars, Dr Jessica Johnson and Dr Rob Humphrey. The session (to be held on Zoom Webinar) aims to give medical students and Foundation Doctors a comprehensive introduction this fascinating pathology specialty. Our speakers will cover:

• Their personal journeys into their specialty
• What working in their specialty is like day to day
• The contribution that chemical pathology makes to medicine and healthcare.

Meet our speakers

Dr Jessica Johnson - Biography

Dr Jessica Johnson has been a Chemical Pathology registrar since 2020 at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. She is currently half way through the Chemical Pathology training program, and completed FRCPath post graduate exams.  As a registrar, she has close links to the lipids, inherited metabolic disease, diabetes, metabolic bone and hypertension services, as well as toxicology reporting for post mortem samples.  

Dr Rob Humphrey - Biography

Dr Rob Humphrey is an ST4 in Chemical Pathology at Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust. He studied medicine at the University of Manchester, completing an intercalated BSc in medical biochemistry, before undertaking his foundation training at Salford Royal Foundation Trust. 
Studying part-time, he completed an MSc in clinical biochemistry in 2022 with a dissertation investigating the role of thyroid hormones in human lactation. During specialty training he has been involved in various lab-based projects, including improving hypoglycaemia management for hospitalised patients. He has clinical experience in lipids, diabetes and inherited metabolic disease.
He is now currently undertaking out of programme research in the Clinical Trials Service Unit at the University of Oxford, where he is working on large, randomised trials assessing cardiovascular outcomes.
