We are asking members to share their experiences and ideas about how pathology services can help fix the NHS.

The Government has launched Change NHS, a national conversation about the future of the NHS. They are calling on patients, the public, NHS staff and organisations, to input their views to shape a new 10 Year Health Plan for England which will be published in spring 2025.

It should be noted that this is NHS plan for NHS England only, however many of the workstreams that come out of it will have UK wide implications for pathology.

Visit the NHS Change portal to have your say.

`This is our opportunity to use our collective voice to shape the next 10 years of pathology services in the NHS and we are calling on you to have your say.

Focussing on both challenges and opportunities, we need to articulate what has to be put in place to support a profession facing rising demand and workforce shortages as well as the solutions we can offer though reform, innovation, technology and digitalisation.’

The Royal College of Pathologists response to the 10 Year Plan consultation

It should be noted that this is NHS plan for NHS England only, however many of the workstreams that come out of it will have UK wide implications for Pathology.

There are three shifts outlined in the consultation:

  • Shift 1: moving more care from hospitals to communities
  • Shift 2: making better use of technology in health and care
  • Shift 3: focussing on preventing sickness, not just treating it

Based on these 3 shifts, the College will be submitting an organisational response focussing on - prevention, community, digitalisation, cancer pathways, chronic disease pathways and waiting lists.

The response will be submitted in December and will be shared with members.
