This week (3–9 June) is Volunteers’ Week, which celebrates the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. We want to take this opportunity to celebrate our members who volunteer across the College. As well as highlighting their incredible work, we hope to inspire more members to get involved with the College.
The College could not function without the dedication of hundreds of members who take up volunteer roles. Across a diverse range of activities, around 10% of members are involved in the College’s work at any one time.
Around 2,500 members volunteer with us across the College directorates. Approximately 1,300 of these work in training and examinations, around 550 in the governing bodies and committees, 480 in professional guidelines and workforce, and 120 across the remaining teams.
All of these members are actively contributing to our collective mission to advance the science and practice of pathology, and to deliver the best patient care possible. Their expertise is vital in supporting the delivery of the College’s key services, from training the next generation of pathologists, to setting the standards of care across the profession, to sharing knowledge as a subject matter expert.
Throughout National Volunteers’ Week we will be sharing stories of our member volunteers, to learn about their background, volunteer role, and the positives they gain from getting involved in College activities. Each day we will be publishing a new interview to our blogs page, each offering an insight into a different College activity. We will also be sharing quotes, statistics and fun facts on our social channels.
There are always plenty of volunteering opportunities available at the College. If you are an interested member, we would love for you to join us in developing and supporting excellence in pathology for healthcare across the world.
